Say Hello to Honu, the Uber-Rare CryptoKitty That’ll Help Save Our Oceans

By NexChange

The world’s most dominant blockchain game may be known more for its cute and quirky digital felines, but as Forbes points out, the CryptoKitties team is actually “heavily focused” on the blockchain for global good movement, too.

As such, the game maker recently partnered with ACTAI Global and Ocean Elders to create Honu, a half-turtle and half-kitten CryptoKitty, which they affectional call the “world’s first sea-loving CryptoKitty” and “purrfect environmental ambassador.” Honu is reportedly one-of-a-kind and will be auctioned off to support Operation Jairo, a campaign headed by Sea Sheperd and Unite BVI which aims to protect endangered sea turtles from poachers and other threats.

Here’s what Cassidy Robertson, head of Kitties-for-Good, CryptoKitties’ charitable initiative, had to say:

“We are so excited to see Honu in the wild – one part activist, telling stories of our endangered friends, and another part pop culture icon, stealing the spotlight to combine both worlds for greater good…the very first in a lineage of CryptoKitty icons representing the charities and causes they embody.”

Noted VC and ACTAI Global co-founder Bill Tai also had this to add:

“This campaign bridges CryptoKitties’ blockchain game with capital raises that will benefit the planet’s ocean and wildlife…it unites the 800,000 CryptoKitties that have been born, the global technology, crypto, and investment communities with environmentalists and foundations dedicated to preserving our planet’s natural habitats.”

Honu’s auction officially kicked off at the Blockchain Summit in Morocco, which is hosted by the Bitfury Group and ACTAI Global. It ends on midnight July 15, and for those interested in bidding, Ethereum and fiat currency are accepted.
