Martin Shkreli is Selling His One-of-a-Kind Wu-Tang Clan Album on EBay
Martin Shkreli, the so-called ‘pharma bro’ who was convicted on three counts of fraud last month, has placed his one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album for sale on EBay with bidding starting at $100,000, Bloomberg reports.
Bloomberg notes that while the ad for the sale includes a picture of Shkreli holding the CD, its “authenticity couldn’t be immediately verified, and Shkreli’s lawyers declined to comment, but the sale was also noted on the Facebook page associated with Shkreli.”
A little refresher: New York hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan had an unreleased album called Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, in which only one copy existed. The group decided to put this singular album up for bidding, and Shkreli paid $2 million to acquire.
“At any time I may cancel this sale and I may even break this album in frustration. I will donate half of the sale proceeds to medical research,” Shkreli says in his EBay ad. “I am not selling to raise cash–my companies and I have record amounts of cash on hand. I hope someone with a bigger heart for music can be found for this one-of-a-kind piece and makes it available for the world to hear.”
Shkreli had vowed on Twitter that he would stream the Wu-Tang album if Trump won the election. He did indeed stream clips of CD, but not the whole album.
Shkreli faces up to 20 years in prison.
